eSports Betting Online for Real Money

Esports betting has really kicked off in 2021, partly owing to the fact that many professional sports were temporarily put on a hiatus. This has given a chance to sports games, such as FIFA and NBA 2K, to attract sports bettors. The number of people interested in different eSports gambling has only increased, and today you can see punters bet on various leading video games as well, including Dota 2, League of Legends, Fortnite, and many more. With so much from Canadian eSports betting to see, this brings the question: What are the best online eSports betting sites in Canada this year to put to practice your favourite eSports betting strategy?

Top Canadian eSports Real Money Betting Sites

For your comfort, we have put together a list of what we know are the best online eSports bookmakers in Canada. We have used different factors to rank each eSports betting site and provide you with a detailed breakdown of what it has to offer.

Comparing Canadian Online eSports Bookies

There are many factors that come when considering whether to recommend an online eSports betting site. Bookmakers tend to have their strengths and weaknesses, but in the end, they meet the expectations of the audiences they cater to.  Therefore, we take a careful look at what Canada eSports online betting shops have to offer. There are two main types: Endemic, which only feature eSports markets, and non-endemic, which have successfully mixed traditional sports with competitive video games.  Both have their upsides, and we recommend top Canadian sportsbooks that feature very competitive eSports markets as well. What matters the most to eSports fans is honesty and transparency. We check for this, and more:

1. Quality of the bonus offer – eSports fans seem to care less about the welcome bonus than the average sports fan. We still make sure that all T&C’s in any available bonus are described in a clear and unambiguous way.
2. Variety of betting markets – Covering all main eSports is important as no online eSports betting experience is complete without available markets on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Dota 2, Call of Duty, and Overwatch, to name just a few.
3. Licensed and community approved – Apart from looking for a license, we also listen to what eSports punters tell us. We read feedback, public chats and Reddit discussions to make sure that the license of an eSports betting bookmaker is indicative of the bookmaker’s quality and reception in the eSports community.
4. Quick payment methods are an absolute must – Esports fans expect to see quick deposits and cashouts, and this is precisely what our team checks for.
5. Great customer support – We make sure that eSports betting sites in Canada have a reliable and helpful customer service that allows punters to find an answer to their  question promptly.

These criteria are just a few of the factors we check to ensure that the online eSports bookmaker you have chosen is a trustworthy and respected eSports betting location.

Types of Bets

Terminology in eSports bets are similar to what you would find in any traditional sport. Here is a quick and reliable guide to the different eSports bet types that eSports bettors in Canada may place today.

• Game winner – You place a bet to predict the winner of an eSports contest. You can bet on an individual player or a team. Game winners or match winners are the most active market in general. Another variation is “tournament winner” where you don’t only bet on the winner of a single game, but the whole competition or tournament.
• Propositions – Prop bets as they are colloquially known are very popular as they allow you to bet on dozens of possible game conditions. Players are able to make a prediction about different rounds, part of the game, try to guess the score or which map will be won by which player or team. You can see over 30+ different bets on a single game.
• Handicap – In a handicap situation, a team is given an imagined lead, such as a few points more. This advantage only applies for the purposes of the bet and doesn’t reflect on the actual outcome of the game. Handicap betting is worthwhile if you believe there is value in backing a weaker team that can benefit from the additional points and win.

You will discover many different types of bets in the Propositions section. Players can choose from totals, number of kills and number of games before a contest has been completed. All such bets are self-explanatory and will pose no challenge to a novice eSports bettor and definitely not to a veteran.

Major eSports Events

Just like there are many different sports, there are many different video games you can bet on. Each eSport or game has its own main competition you will be aware of if you are part of the community. However, there are events that, even if you don’t play the specific game, you have surely heard about.

1. Dota 2’s The International – Touted as the single-most generous eSports competition, the TI, as the event is known, awarded over C$25 million in 2019. However, the event has been pushed back this year to 2021.
2. Fortnite World Cup – Part of the Epic Games’ competitive season which features C$100 million distributed across different tournaments, this is another significant event on the calendar. The actual Fortnite World Cup has a prize pool worth C$30 million.
3. League of Legends Worlds – League of Legends crowning annual event doesn’t distribute so much in prize money, with just C$1 million currently, with much more prize money allocated in regional competitions.

Outside of these eSports events, there are plenty more opportunities. The Overwatch League and Call of Duty League are two events that generate massive interest and have good prize pools. Every game has its own unique competitive format and prize pools.
